We tested Livia, the device to relieve painful periods

The promise.

Livia uses electrostimulation to block the pain signals sent to the brain during menstruation (which is caused by the contraction of the uterus to evacuate fragments of blood and mucous membrane and can lead to headaches, nausea and to great fatigue). Concretely, the nerves are "busy" and therefore cannot transmit the message "pain", which explains why we do not feel pain.

We tested.

Getting started with this mini turquoise case couldn't be simpler:just connect the electrodes to the case, remove their protective film and apply them to the lower abdomen (or lower back, depending on the location of pain). Then we clip Livia to the belt and let's go! The device offers 25 levels of pulses, it is up to us to test the one that suits us best by gradually increasing the power. If you are not used to electrostimulation, the sensations can be confusing, even unpleasant if you start at too high a level (and whatever the power selected, it still takes a few minutes to become familiar with the feelings). For your information, we did not exceed level 7... Just to test the device in real conditions, we did not take any medication (anti-spasmodic or anti-inflammatory) during the test.

Once the electrodes are in place, the slight electrical impulses result in a kind of more or less intense vibration that you get used to very quickly. It disrupts the perception of pain, which almost completely disappears. We used the device for about 3 to 4 hours in total per day, on the 2 most painful days of the cycle. When Livia is not on, the pain takes a while to come back, and when it is, just turn it back on and relief is fast (in 5-10 minutes max). Battery side, it holds, we did not need to recharge the device. The electrodes are reusable from one month to the next, you just have to stick the protections back on.

Verdict.

Tested and more than approved! It's quite amazing:the sensation provided by the electrodes is complicated to describe with precision, especially since the feeling will be specific to each person depending on their pain and the level of impulse chosen, but the fact is that we cannot can't say that we had pain during the test (and yet, with endometriosis, we tested the device in real pain conditions). Good point for the size of the device:it is so small that you even end up forgetting it, and it really allows you to go about your business without thinking about your period pain.
