Teenagers:watch out for energy drinks!

Teenagers, too, suffer from stress (eg exams), daily chores and lack of sleep. To compensate for this lack of vitality, they sometimes turn to energy drinks, rich in caffeine and rather popular like Red Bull or Monster... A bad idea, according to researchers from the University of Waterloo (in Canada), who reveal following a new study, that more than half of the young people questioned and having consumed these drinks suffered from (very) negative effects on their health. A frightening observation!

Pain and… seizures

The researchers questioned 2,055 young people, all between the ages of 12 and 24, about the frequency of their consumption of energy drinks, but also about the negative effects they felt. And the results are rather surprising, since most of them claim to drink much less than the recommended dose. However, 55% of them also recognize having had some health problems, sometimes serious! According to the study, 24.7% say they have felt an increase in their heart rate, 18.3% have suffered from headaches, 3.6% mention chest pain and finally, 0.2% say they have had seizures. … Frightening ! If there are no restrictions on the consumption of these energy drinks by young people, scientists warn of the risks involved and strongly advise that their purchase be limited to those under 16 years of age. We have been warned!
