Watching series before sleeping is not good for our sleep

What is our suffering not to see or know what will happen in the next episode of our favorite series... to remedy this most of us do binge watching. It's the same concept as binge drinking (or swallowing as much alcohol as possible in a minimum of time), but this time it's with series. Researchers from the University of Michigan claim in a recent study that this trend is very bad for the quality of our sleep.

Insomnia and increased fatigue

The researchers questioned more than 420 young people aged 18 to 25 about their quality of sleep, according to them. The results are indisputable:on all the participants the problems of insomnia and increased fatigue constantly recur. 80% practice binge watching. Among them, no less than 40% practice it once a month and 7% practice it every day. The results also show that girls binge watch more than men, but less regularly. Almost all participants said they slept about seven hours a night. Those who are followers of binge watching complain more of sleep problems unlike those who do not practice it. Although both groups slept equally, the quality of sleep would be altered by the binge watching trend. The reason is still in our brain:we feed it into action (our series) so it is on constant alert. So our brain doesn't have time to cool down! Difficult to sleep after seeing the death of Poussey (oops… spoiler) while having to wait for the next season. Lack of sleep leads to a lot of problems like reduced memory or cardiovascular disease… yay. We should avoid having a screen in front of our eyes half an hour before going to bed, according to experts.

Moreover, Netflix offers "binge watchers" to pre-program the maximum viewing time. That's useful!
