A tattoo ink that changes according to our health

What if tattoos weren't just decorative anymore? In any case, this is what Katia Vega, a researcher at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology, one of the best universities in the world) is trying to show, who has devoted herself for seven years to the DermalAbyss project, which tries to make skin human an interactive surface. Latest project to date:to develop an ink for tattoos that would change color depending on the state of health of the person. With the help of Harvard University and some of its doctors, Katia Vega's team has tried to develop this new tool, which she thinks is revolutionary.

Prevent diabetics from injecting themselves several times a day

This ink, which is supposed to react to chemical changes in the human body, contains biological sensors that change colors depending on the substances present in the interstitial fluid (i.e. the fluid that fills the space between cells and blood capillaries ). Once the tattoo is engraved in the skin, the ink will be able to measure the level of Ph, glucose or even sodium and then reflect the results through the color of the tattoo. This invention would allow, for example, diabetics to know the evolution of their blood sugar level and thus avoid them from injecting themselves several times a day as they do nowadays.

In the near future, advanced technologies like these will spread more and more. And at the same time, if it can improve the lives of millions of people, we say yes!
