British teens drink a tub of soda a year

Obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease... It's no secret that sugary drinks are not beneficial to your health. A reality that does not seem to deter the British:between the ages of 11 and 18, they drink an average of 234 cans of soda per year, the equivalent of a tub of soda!

Worrying figures

Cancer Research, which reveals these figures based on data from a national survey, specifies that this consumption is three times higher than the recommended amount of added sugar. But that's not all. The organization also reveals that children aged 4 to 10 drink about 110 cans a year and those aged 18 months to three years consume an average of 70 each year. Worrying figures that could have serious consequences on health.

To remedy this, Cancer Research appeals to the government by supporting the implementation of a "soda tax":taxing 20 cents on each liter of sugar could thus prevent 3.7 million cases of obesity during the next decade. An idea that could inspire the French…
