Cinnamon could be the key to good digestion

According to a study conducted by researchers at the Royal Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Australia, and reported by the Telegraph , cinnamon would be a key component for good digestion. To achieve such a result, the scientists added the spice to pig meals (well, it's not very appetizing, we grant you) and the effects were not long in coming:the cinnamon reduced the level of carbon dioxide present in the stomachs of the animals, and thus lowered their body temperature. Even better, the researchers observed in the animals, subsequently fed with meals containing cinnamon, a general improvement in their state of health.

An antioxidant and an anti-inflammatory

Cinnamon would reduce the secretion of gastric acid, which would "cool" the stomach by up to 2°C during digestion. The professor leading the research, Kouroush Kalantar-Zadeh, also clarified that the spice has the ability to protect the walls of the stomach and intestines. And the researchers assure that these results are valid for men. “The cinnamon tree [the tree from which cinnamon comes] has a strong therapeutic power thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties. It is an antioxidant that scavenges free radicals [which can lead to an imbalance in the body] “, explained the professor.

This is not the first time that science has attributed valuable benefits to cinnamon. A medical university in California has already shown that the spice can improve learning ability.

So, when are we getting there? As Christmas approaches, we love hot chocolate with cinnamon!
