Ile-de-France residents:the kings of walking

On the occasion of mobility week, the SNCF and Withings, the French start-up specializing in connected objects for health, carried out a study. More than 8,000 Ile-de-France residents were questioned and took part in the "Online Walks" challenge, which consisted of counting their daily number of steps using a mobile application.

Thus, Ile-de-France is the most active region in France with only 20% of “sedentary” people (people walking less than 4,000 steps per day), compared to 25% in France.

Those who walk the most are cyclists, with an average of 8600 steps per day.

What we also notice is that public transport users take about 900 more steps per day than motorists. In addition, the latter, using the stairs, rather than the escalators, would take more than 1,200 more steps per day.

The study also reveals that the inhabitants of inner Paris walk about 1,000 steps more daily than the inhabitants of the Parisian suburbs.

Although Paris is the second city in Europe where people walk the most, just behind London, the recommended 10,000 steps are far from being reached. For this, the SNCF wants to "improve its equipment in order to change the behavior of its users according to Alain Krakovitch, the director of Transilien. He said:“We want to promote walking among our users. Especially since the more you walk, the more you want to walk according to the Parisian.
