8 tips for better sleep when it's hot

Hot, hot, hot! This Tuesday, a heat wave leaves the South-West to spread over the rest of France, with episodes of heat wave in several regions. According to Météo France, "highs will often reach 35 degrees. 37 degrees are expected in Lyon, 40 will be reached, sometimes exceeded in the southwest. The heat wave should last until the weekend.

How to better live these days that make you sweat? It is advisable to drink a liter and a half to two liters (unless there is a medical contraindication), to avoid drinks with a diuretic effect such as coffee, tea and sodas, to eat raw vegetables and fruits, to avoid going out during the hottest hours, leave synthetic materials in the closet and favor materials that reduce the feeling of heat (cotton, linen, muslin, crepe, etc.), close the shutters and curtains of rooms that are exposed in the sun, limit physical activity in direct sunlight and take cool showers.

Ok, we're ready! And at night, to sleep well and not turn around sweating and cursing, what do we do?

1/ Ventilate your rooms. If you can, that's the best way! In addition, it brings in freshness for (part of) the day. If you face a street and are sensitive to noise, you can opt for the foam balls in the ears. And during the day, we barricade everything, closing blinds, shutters and curtains. "The heat, YOU WILL NOT PASS!" »

2/ Avoid (as much as possible) drunken evenings. We know it:well-made rosé is tempting in the evening, especially when you enjoy the freshness on a terrace with friends. So a drink, ok, but not (much) more. Because alcohol is dehydrating. You are therefore likely to have a lighter sleep… and to catch a good migraine when you wake up. Instead, opt for succulent non-alcoholic cocktails or good juices filled with water, with small parasols in them, fruits, candies, and all the tralala. Cool!

3/ We eat light. We prefer the cod to the large beef steak, the tomato-mozzarella to the charcuterie-cheese board, the fruit salad to the cheesecake. Because yes, all that is very good but it is even harder to digest when our body is already spending energy fighting against the heat. Instead, he is fed light, moisturizing foods to help him. You're the best, Body!

4/ We create a homemade air conditioning. If you have a fan, you can put bottles of frozen water in front of it. Otherwise, spread a damp sheet in front of the window:the evaporation of the water will reduce the temperature of the room a little. We can also put mist on our pillow (there are some that smell good, too) and leave a basin of water with a glove next to the bedside table to cool off at night.

5/ We kill mosquitoes. Either with chemicals, or we opt for the only "natural" solution that works 100%:mosquito nets (ok not very practical, we understand. But these beasts are treacherous).

6/ No sports after 4 p.m. And not after 11 a.m. when it's very hot because exercising in the heat is very bad. So if you don't have an air-conditioned gym and you're lazy/no time to run before work in the morning, so be it. We will wait for the temperatures to drop (the lazy ones will be happy…).

7/ Sleep in loose cotton pajamas. Or naked. In addition, it seems that it would be good for your health...

8/ Prefer a book in bed to your series. And turn off any device that produces heat, such as the TV, your tablet, your computer,... Instead, rediscover the magic of books which have a huge advantage over these new technologies:they can ALSO be used to crush mosquitoes.
