Running out of pills, without a prescription, on vacation… how do I manage?

Normally, no.

But for all prescription medications, troubleshooting can be done on a case-by-case basis, after an interview (sometimes extensive) with the pharmacist who will assess the risks (that of giving us the medication and that of refusing it to us). Is the medication essential or urgent (hypertension, diabetes, asthma, etc.)? The pharmacist can also call our attending physician to obtain his approval or our usual pharmacy to see if they have a trace of the prescription. But not everyone dispenses the drug, because the pharmacist is responsible. For the pill, it often passes, but some refuse (they have the right), and others require at least an expired prescription.

Yes, if we have a pharmaceutical file.

It can be opened for free in French pharmacies (the majority are equipped with it) by bringing your Vitale card. Any pharmacist with their professional card can access our file and therefore check that a drug has already been prescribed. We will have a better chance of getting the medicine in this case.

Thank you to Marcelline Grillon, pharmacist and president of the Council of the Order of Pharmacists of the Center region.
