Serious? Can Yoga Cause Hip Problems?

Yes, unfortunately you can. But you don't just get a hip problem from yoga. You have to do a lot for that…

Frequent yoga practice is at risk of injuring the hip bone, says Benoy Matthews, who specializes in hip and knee physical therapy and is a member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapists. He is increasingly visited by yoga teachers who complain about hip problems.

Yoga positions

According to the physiotherapist, the hips are overloaded because they are repeatedly forced into certain yoga positions that the body's own physiology does not allow. This can even lead to hip operations.

Pinching and blocking feeling

“People confuse stiffness with pain. If there is a pinching or blocking feeling in the groin, an indication of hip problems, you should not ignore this.” The physiotherapist is not saying that yoga is bad, but he is also saying that what is achievable for you, is also achievable for someone else. He recommends alternating yoga with other sports to reduce the risk of hip injuries.
