Do muscles weigh more than fat?

You've probably heard that muscle is heavier than fat. What exactly is that?

A kilo remains a kilo, but a kilo of muscle does indeed take up less space than a kilo of fat and that is what the statement refers to. For example, your body may look better in shape, but the scale may indicate a higher number than before.

Why are muscles heavier?
Fat cells mainly consist of triglycerides, which are lighter than the proteins and water from which muscle cells are built.
